Prelude To a Month of Bloggy Tutorials

A few days ago, my very funny (and very pregnant) friend LJ asked me a few questions about blog design: how did you get your blog that way?  How do you do this?  How do you do that?

When I began my blog venture in late October, I had no clue what I was doing.  I had just caved and signed up with twitter (which, I was boycotting because..like I really needed another thing to check on my computer).  I started seeking out other moms on twitter and found they each had these webpages, or blogs.    I recall thinking to myself how they all looked so sophisticated.  How did they do that? I had NO inkling how to even attempt to do what they did ( like making and inserting their own buttons, backgrounds, signatures, etc).or even where to start. The more blogs I checked out, the more interested I became in building my own little corner of the web- a place for parenting tips, information, and giveaways mixed in with my own daily motherhood craziness and thoughts.  So how do I do this? I thought.

I researched.

And researched some more.

And learned a little html here.

And a little more html there.

It took a while, but I finally learned the basics.  Little by little, things were coming together.  My blog is nowhere where I would like it to be, but it's definitely a beginning-considering I started out with a generic blogger two column template just a few months ago.  And for those of you who would like to know how to tweak your blog and add those fun little features like making your own banner, blog button, signature and more-stick around!  Throughout the next few weeks I will be adding some tutorials to help you get the most out of your blog

Like I said, I'm still soaking in information about blog design everyday.  It's a process that is time consuming, but something I've found I love to do.  It's fun, interesting, and in the long term is really beneficial because if you want to go back and change things about your blog and it's design, you'll know how.  So for LJ and anyone else who wants to get started on spiffing up your blog-this one's for you. Hopefully these tutorials (in layman's terms-promise!) can help to simplify the design process in an otherwise sometimes overly confusing venture.

  2. How exciting! Looking forward to it. I started in August and still feel very "behind" on the blog look aspect. I'm actually thinking of moving away from blogger too. Yikes. Tomorrow I'm running a post on coherence in your posting schedule on my site - so we'll be like partners in blogging tomorrow at least! :)
